My new Chase Vehicle!

This morning as Amanda and I were driving down to our second home we spotted this shiney red Subaru Impreza Outback Sport for sale. Well after contacting the owner Chris and taking a little test drive I have purchased this car for my new 2006 chase vehicle! Chris reports that it gets close to 30 mpg on the highway which is a far cry better than my 1999 Ford Expedition that gets 19 mph - plus this little car is speedy! I took it up our hill just now and it did great on the curves, it is truely a little red rocket! More details coming soon!

Cloud shots retouched

Playing with Photoshop 7.0 and a cloud shot I took from outside the bedroom window. Here's the original and the retouched version. I lower the brightness, increased the contrast and increased the saturation slightly.

Denver City Lights

This picture is of the Broomfield, 120th Ave area of Denver as seen from my deck at 9080' in Coal Creek Canyon. This shot was with my camera sitting on the tripod but not fastened down so there could have been some vibration. Also possible is that it is not quite focused as it is very hard to focus at night under low light situtations. This shot was with my zoom lens zoomed in about half of it's range.

Sunrise shots

This morning at 6:30am before Amanda, Kathleen and I went snowboarding we enjoyed this sunrise from our home. I used my new Olympus camera to take the shot above using the scene -> sunset pre-defined setting. The exposure time was about 1 second and I can see from the city lights of Denver that I need to use a tripod on long exposures like this.

New Olympus Digital SLR Camera!

Well santa was very good to me this Christmas and one of the things I was able to buy was this new Olympus E-500 DSLR. This morning I am reading the manuals and learning the basics of this beautiful camera. One interesting thing I read is that it has an image sensor 'shaker' that shakes at 35,000 times per second when you turn it on to shake any dust off the sensor that may have settled on it. The package I bought came with two lenses, a zoom and a standard. I went with this package sense with my luck in getting the close in shots of a tornado I'll need to be using the zoom lens alot more than the basic lens. Here's the camera and the first shot I took from my deck looking out over Boulder, CO.

Plans beginning for 2006 Chase Season

Earlier this year Michael and I had talked about having an official T-shirt to wear for the 2006 season. Here is an idea I had using the U-haul truck design. I want something similar but not totally ripping off their image!

First post to my new blog for 2006

After a year of using the scrolling text window on my main page I've decided to go ahead and create a real blog site to link my site to. Check back here as the 2006 storm season approaches!
